| It is customary to offer rice to birds before we
consume food. Apart from the common rice eaters
like house and Jungle Crows, many other birds eat
rice. These include Oriental Magpie Robins, Red
vented Bulbuls, Rufous Treepies, Jungle Babblers,
Common Mynas. Dr. Vaidya Sundararaman had posted
an excellent picture of a Black Rumped Flameback
eating rice sometime ago. While Black Kites also
eat rice, they are a bit more confident.
I have been in Kerala for over ten years, in a
place full of Brahminy Kites. Only a month ago we
noticed that a Brahminy kite had started eating
rice. This bird is very nervous, and flies off at
the slightest disturbance. I wonder if this has
been observed in other places too. Thank you! |
